Rota Vicentina · Fishermen's Trail
Almograve sits halfway along the Fishermen's Trail, between Vila Nova de Milfontes and Zambujeira do Mar. Here you can sleep for a night, wash your clothes, eat well and carry on in the morning.
The Fishermen's Trail is the coastal route of the Rota Vicentina: you walk over cliffs, sand and old fishermen's paths, always with the Atlantic in view. It's not steep, but the sand is tiring and the wind is constant. Almograve is one of the natural stopping points along the way.
Stages
The best-known stage, and the toughest going on loose sand. It ends with the crossing of the Mira river, by boat or bridge.
Low cliffs, one beach after another, and the lighthouse on arrival. This is the stage that ends at our stay — you can walk right to the door.
You leave Almograve via Ponta do Cavaleiro, with Cabo Sardão halfway along. Bring water: there's no support for most of the stage.
The final stage of the trail in the Alentejo, with Odeceixe beach and the river mouth as your reward.
Distances and times are approximate, for an easy pace with stops. Always check the official Rota Vicentina signage on the ground.
